His professional achievements had as much to do with his leadership skills as they had to do with his professional capabilities. As I think about leadership, I realize my grandfather has singlehandedly shaped my entire perception of what leadership should be like.

I used to imagine leaders as intimidating personalities who were the most capable in their respective fields but my grandfather once explained to me that leaders have several types of power one of which comes through formal rank within the company. But my grandfather said he had the least admiration for power that comes through rank because it can force followers to do things you want but it cannot ensure full commitment from them. My grandfather believed a leader should not order but win the hearts of his followers. My grandfather also helped change my notion that a leader has to be the smartest person in the organization. My grandfather used to say that he never wants to be the smartest person in the room because it puts him at a disadvantage.

If one is smartest, there is not much he can learn from others while others can still learn from him. I have also learnt from my grandfather that a leader should strive for personal relationships with followers. When followers feel they are being valued and appreciated for their hard work, they shine the brightest. While we often hear about leaders being extremely smart, very few people talk about the importance of emotional intelligence. My grandfather was wise to understand the importance of emotional intelligence and used to tell me that even a leader has weaknesses and limitations and he should always remain aware of them. My grandfather would say a leader should have trust in himself but should never commit the sin of overconfidence because overconfidence is what usually leads to damaged legacies.

My grandfather was a huge fan of Warren Buffet in this regard and advised me to learn more about Warren Buffet. I am grateful to my grandfather for teaching me some of the basic fundamentals of leadership. My grandfather has influenced me to challenge almost every notion I had of leadership. I now finally understand why there are so few effective leaders because most leaders become the victim of personal ego, pride, greed, and quest for power and do not realize that their most powerful weapon is their followers. An admission essay is an essay that a student writes when applying for a university or college program. It is normally not more than two pages long around words , so you have to be concise in your thoughts and choose your words carefully. There are various types of admission essays: statement of purpose, personal statement, letter of intent, etc. There is no single guide to success when it comes to admission essays. Every admission essay has to be unique and demonstrate your specialties, your attitude, and your personal traits that will help you successfully enroll in the institution of your choice. Carefully read through the website of the university or college to which you are applying. Be sure you fully understand the mission and the direction of development and values the university or college proclaims.

Furthermore, each educational institution may also have some specific requirements to narrow down and simplify your essay. Make a short list of points you wish to emphasize in your admission essay. Plan your essay structure before you begin writing it. Start with general information about yourself, mentioning only the most relevant and preferably recent experiences that relate to your major. Then write two or three paragraphs about your motivation and rationale for studying at this particular institution. End by mentioning the extracurricular activities and hobbies you are interested in, and how these activities correlate to the institution you are applying for. Conclude your admission essay with a sentence addressing the committee or board of your college directly.

In a formal manner, let the person reading your admission essay know how much enrolling in this institution means to you and that you will be looking forward to the decision of the board. Lay your writing aside for some time and then do thorough proofreading. Consider revising those parts that are too general or do not have a clear meaning. Make sure every sentence is not just a general statement about how much you want to become a student of this particular institution, but also presents your personality, motivation, and abilities that relate to the selected discipline of your future major.

Make your admission essay stand out by mentioning what characterizes you as a unique applicant it can be a specific skill, past experiences, cultural background, your academic or career achievements, etc. Do include only relevant information. If you have a hobby that has absolutely nothing to do with the program for which you are applying, think twice before you take up words out of the limited word count for your admission essay to describe this hobby.
