I try to serve the community to the best of my ability and to help out in the classroom. I demonstrate my character by being responsible, trustworthy and following a strong moral compass. When I first hear about National Honor Society in the beginning of my middle school years I knew that it was something I not only wanted to be a part of but that I was meant to be a part of. Growing up much of my time was spent around adults causing me to mature quickly and realize things others my age did not.

I have always been driven and independent and accept noting but the best from myself especially when it comes to academics. I maintained straight A's all throughout my education up until high school. For each of these qualities, there are many traits, useful in a leader, and not. Since it is only my second year as a student at Carlsbad High School, there has not been much time of my being distracted from my school work as I try to be as diligent of a student as possible.

However, from time to time, I take a break and do things for the community instead. The students that make up the National Honor Society are extremely dedicated in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character, and I would be very grateful to be a part of the standards. I feel that I should be considered for the National Honor Society Committee for many reasons. Though I cannot list all of the reasons why, due to this paper having to be so short, I will give two outstanding reasons why I should be elected. First, I am forward-looking while also being straightforward with my education and work. I am always planning ahead and always go through with what is most significant, that of which is school.

I believe that someone's experiences shape their character into what it is today. I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity of possibly being a member of the National Honor Society. Being honest is something that I take to great importance even if the outcome can end up unsatisfactory for me. Results are only part of the story. How you achieved them is critically important to communicate. Think about how many NHS applications your school counselor reviews each year. Not every student who completes an application is selected for the honor.

So how do you make your essay stand out? Here are five strategies:. Your application form provides the facts about the scope and range of your involvement and contributions to your communities. Be sure that you write your essay in a way that brings this data to life. A compelling essay enables the reader to feel a strong connection to you. Express your unique values, aspirations, and priorities. Be honest about challenges and what you have learned through your mistakes. And be sure the tone of the essay sounds like you and nobody else. People love to hear and remember stories, not simply facts and figures. Express themes and points that you want to share by relaying stories that bring these concepts to life.

Stories can be poignant, funny, suspenseful, or surprising. Any approach that makes a reader want to continue reading is a great one. Many students find it hard to express their hard-earned accomplishments without sounding boastful. Proudly stating your achievements without sounding brash is possible and important. Clearly state your motivations, your challenges, your vulnerabilities, and your mistakes to mitigate any concerns. Do you have a clear thesis around which you have organized your thoughts? Compelling topic sentences to hook your reader? Strong supporting sentences to back up your reasoning? Have you avoided clichés? Do you vary your sentence structure and word choice? Does the text flow and keep the reader engaged? Last, but not least, have you checked and double-checked your grammar, punctuation, and spelling?

Writing is an iterative process so give yourself the time necessary to land on the best approach for explaining why you are deserving of the NHS honor. There are many ways to tackle an essay. Try a few to determine which is the most effective. Then, when you determine the best approach and are satisfied with your latest draft, share it with someone whose opinion you value. Looking for someone to read over your essay? Our peer review system will help you get feedback from other students so that you can improve your NHS essay and college essays. While there is not a single template for a strong essay, here is an example of an NHS essay written by an 11th-grade student who was accepted into NHS. Success is not only about improving yourself, but also about improving life for others.

While my GPA shows my commitment to academics, how I spend my time and conduct myself outside of school reveal my commitment to making the world a better place, consistent with the values of the National Honor Society. For the two years my grandfather lived in a nursing home, each weekend I took my dog EJ to visit him. Because of this experience and because monkeys are my favorite animal, when I heard about Helping Hands HH , the only organization in the world that raises capuchin monkeys to be live-in assistants to people with spinal cord injuries, I reached out to volunteer. Both in the summer and during the school year, I assist the trainers. Monkeys begin training when they are teenagers. It typically takes three to five years until they are ready to be placed with a person.

My first job is to clean the cages of 60 monkeys. Not my favorite responsibility.

I am extremely honored to be eligible for this opportunity to apply for the National Honor Society. Becoming a member of the National Honor Society has been a goal I set for myself since I was a student in middle school. I have been greatly looking forward to this moment for a very long time. Overall, I have worked incredibly hard these last two years to display a positive character and obtain qualities such as leadership, responsibility, and scholarship. I strongly believe I will be a productive and reliable member of the National Honor Society at Harvard H.

Ellis Technical High School. The National Honor Society is built upon four founding principles: Scholarship, Character, Leadership, and Service. I have a high school life filled with dedication to these four principles on the Spiritual standpoint, the Familial level, the Community level and finally at the National level. Moreover, I did begin my dedication to these same four principles even before this starting with the Boy Scouts of America and this commitment will continue along with having a rich future when I reach my fullest potential. The National Honor Society is based off of four pillars; Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character.

Scholarship is one of the most important pillars to me. Scholarship means not only doing well in school and getting good grades, but applying what I have learned and using it everyday. I know the importance of education and feel that I am a lifelong learner. I feel very fortunate to have been raised in a family where education is a priority. I was taught to work hard and never give up. I did a lot of research and asked a few people about what I would need to take part in this group. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. In accordance to the Camden Academy Charter High School National Honor Society application process I will be writing an essay based on the four pillars of the National Honor Society Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service and how they apply to me.

Scholarship applies to me mostly through my scholastic work ethic, I am primarily intimating around my transition from sophomore year to junior year. When I first entered the CACHS school system I started out just like any other kid with regular classes and everything. My first teacher to come to me about advanced. The first reason for why I want to be in National Junior Honor Society is because it just seems like it is exciting. Plus it is also a chance to meet new people and make more friends. Today I am deeply humbled to be recognized as a potential member of the National Honor Society. To me this means I have exemplified everything you look for in a student who goes above and beyond, not just in academics but in athletics, the community and at home as well.

I have not taken this selection for granted, as I believe would be a great asset to the National Honor Society. I am hardworking, honest, reliable and quite charismatic too. I hold all the qualities required by the distinguished NHS like leadership, service, character and scholarship. Dear the National Honor Society selection committee, Thank you for the great honor of being invited to apply for membership to such a well-respected and incredible organization. I am very excited about this opportunity as it presents an optimal way in which to further my passion of expanding my mind and bettering my community. Since I entered high school, I have pursued this by taking all honors classes and any Advanced Placement classes offered to me each year.

Although sometimes I was not always entirely sure what to expect walking into each class, and of course there have been classes I like more than others, there is no class I regret taking because each and every one has opened my mind up to a new way of thinking. First off, I am humbled to be considered for membership of the National Honor Society. In my opinion on the foundation of the four pillars of NHS the FPC NHS chapter will benefit from my membership because I will bring intellect, drive, leadership, character, dedication to serve my community, honesty, respect, pride, discipline, compassion and among many other qualities a sense of humor. As an active member of my school and community I work hard to serve not just myself but those around me.

I am an active volunteer throughout Flagler County as previously stated. I am a teenage volunteer at the Florida Hospital Flagler. I am deeply honored to be one of the many students to be considered for the National Honor Society. This is something I have been looking forward to ever since I left my former school 's National Honor Society. As my dreams of being inducted are slowly getting closer to becoming a reality, I truly really what qualities are to be shown by those who get the opportunity to be considered. Not only would it be an enormous honor to be accepted, it will show that hard work and effort truly pays off.

I would like to thank you for considering me for National Junior Honor Society. It is a tremendous honor to be recognized for not only my academics, but also my leadership, service, citizenship, and character. Admittance into this club is something I would take great pride in and I will surely represent myself with the utmost class, dignity and respect that the club represents. I would like to start off this essay off by saying I am very honored to be invited to join the National Honor Society. Ever since I was young I loved helping people.

I did this through Girl Scouts, which I participated in five years ago. One year my Girl Scout troop went to Kennedy Hospital in December and sang Christmas carols to cheer people up. It was events like this that really shaped who I am as a person. National Junior Honor Society Essay Being a member of National Junior Honor Society interests me in a number of ways. I believe I excel in all five criteria of NJHS: academics, leadership, service, citizenship, and character, and being a part of this national organization will help me improve much more in each of the categories.

I am also interested knowing that having membership in NJHS will help my future career and bring a lasting impression to many people. I have succeeded in many tasks academically. I am very proud and grateful to say that I have been given the privilege of qualifying to join the National Honor Society. It would be, naturally, an honor to be a part of such a prestigious institution. However, to do so, one must epitomize its five tenets: character, responsibility, leadership, scholarship and service. Being an avid member in the community, I have grown to embody these traits.

My experience and upholding of the fundamentals of character, leadership, scholarship, responsibility, and service will readily employ me to play a part in continuing the legacy that the National Honor Society possesses. I learned a lot about leadership from two summers of a school activity called Camp Ophelia. Camp Ophelia is a camp to help girls understand the importance of how anger affects our relationships in our day to day lives and friendships. Some of the activities included Zumba, making stepping stones, a lamp, and a bench engraved with the qualities of friendship. I have a high regard for freedom, justice, and democracy.
